Our skilled dentists offer patients, new and existing, all of the oral health services you could dream of. Many people take advantage of our dental reconstruction options to bring back the beauty of their smiles.
One of the most common treatments we offer is inlays and onlays in Brentwood. While these two things are similar, they do have their differences. Both inlays and onlays are made up of one of three materials: gold, porcelain, or composite resin.
At Brentwood Dental Art, Dr. Falaki uses inlays and onlays as a bond to damaged teeth. We apply a small piece to the affected tooth. It’s common for dental professionals to compare inlays to a filling. This is because it’s used inside the cusp tips within your tooth.
An onlay works the same way but additionally extends over the cusps of a tooth. More and more, patients have been choosing porcelain as the material for their inlays and onlays. Gold used to be the most common, but with porcelain’s durability and natural color, it’s taking over!
Dr. Falaki at Brentwood Dental Art wants each patient to be comfortable in our clinic. We do that by providing details about what you should expect during an appointment. Inlays and onlays require two appointments to be fully complete.
Our dental professional will get an impression of your tooth during your first appointment to ensure the inlay or onlay fits properly. The impression is sent off to a lab, and we’ll apply a temporary sealant until the impression is returned.
At your second appointment, we’ll clean the area, remove the temporary sealant, and ensure that the inlay or onlay fits comfortably and naturally. If no adjustments are needed, we’ll apply them to your tooth!
If followed by a proper oral hygiene routine, inlays and onlays can last up to 30 years before needing replacements.
